HOW TO ENTER

Steps for participation:

  • Make a video of yourself or you and up to three friends performing Harry Connick, Jr.'s hit holiday song The Happy Elf.
  • Go to www.youtube.com/group/happyelf to join our group and upload your video. A few notes about YouTube:
    • YouTube does not allow users under the age of 13 to create an account on its site. For contest participants under the age of 13, you must have your parent or legal guardian create an account using his/her email address, username and birthdate to upload your video and enter the contest on your behalf.
    • YouTube does permit participants over the age of 13 to create their own account, and we must require you to obtain parent/guardian permission to participate in this contest.
    • First Stage Children's Theater is not responsible for other content on YouTube. We recommend that parents and legal guardians navigate YouTube with your child to ensure contest participation and Internet safety.
    • If you are unfamiliar with creating an account or uploading a video on YouTube, please click here.
  • After uploading your video, visit www.firststage.org/contact, complete the required contact fields, select "Holiday video contest entry" from the drop-down menu, and include the participant's name(s), birthdate(s), name of video and date/time uploaded to YouTube. If we receive your registration through www.firststage.org/contact but cannot locate your YouTube video entry, we may contact you regarding resubmission.
  • Encourage your friends and family to visit www.firststage.org/thehappyelf and follow the links to our YouTube group to view and rate your video! Make sure your video's Broadcast options are set to "Public" so everyone has a chance to watch!

Contest categories: Semi-finalists and winners will be selected within one of four categories: Ages eight and under, ages nine through 13, ages 14 through 18, or the group category (maximum four participants; all participants must be under age 18). All participants must be age 18 or under to be eligible for the Contest.

Contest timeline:
All entries must be submitted by November 16, 2008. Semi-finalists will be notified shortly thereafter, and the winners will be announced at the opening performance of Harry Connick, Jr.'s THE HAPPY ELF on November 28, 2008.

Criteria:
Videos submitted will be judged not solely on vocal quality, but also on originality and creativity of the performance and video. Participants can incorporate costumes or other elements to enhance the performance. Lyrics to the song The Happy Elf must be clearly performed vocally by the contest participant(s). The Entrant or Group must appear in the Video, and the Entrant or Group must sing the Song. The Video must not contain any person(s) other than the Entrant or members of the Group.

Prizes:
The overall Grand Prize Winner will receive a weekend stay the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells resort (as well as the prizes below)

One winner from each category will receive a family season ticket package to First Stage Children's Theater's 2009-2010 season, an autographed photo of Harry Connick, Jr., and copies of Harry Connick, Jr.'s Harry for the Holidays album, The Happy Elf on DVD, and Harry Connick, Jr.'s new holiday album, due out this fall!
