Sign Language Interpreted Performances

First Stage offers American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances for many of our productions, interpreted by licensed and certified sign language interpreters. Select performances for our school matinees are also ASL interpreted. To request the dates of ASL interpreted school performances, please contact us at (414) 267-2962 or fieldtrips@firststage.org.

*Please note that the below info reflects a new procedure taking effect during our 2026/2027 season. Our ASL interpreted performance of Disney's Frozen will continue to feature interpreters near the left most wall of the Todd Wehr Theater. Please contact our box office at (414) 267-2966 or ticketmanager@firststage.org for more information.

What to Expect

Todd Wehr Theater

For performances at the Todd Wehr Theater, interpreters will be located at the bottom of section 5 closest to the stage. To maximize the view of both the interpreters and the action on stage, seats have been blocked off for those who may need ASL interpreted services in Section 5, rows E-G.

Due to the nature of our stage and theater space, we acknowledge that we are not able to provide an optimum viewing experience for those who may need ASL interpretation. We are aware of the current limitations and have determined that this is the best solution to ensure the safety of our performers and viewing pleasure of those joining us for an ASL interpreted performance. While we recommend the section listed above, they may not be the best solution for every individual. For further questions, to discuss your personalized needs, or to request additional accomodations, please contact us at (414) 267-2966 or ticketmanager@firststage.org

Milwaukee Youth Arts Center

For performances at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, interpreters will be located on the far side of the Goodman Mainstage Theater in the smallest audience section that has two rows of seats. Since performances at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center are exclusively general admission, select seats will be reserved for those who may need ASL interpretation. Reserved seating will be opened to the general public at 5 minutes to curtain, so please plan your arrival accordingly.

For further questions or to request additional accomodations, please contact us at (414) 267-2966 or ticketmanager@firststage.org

How to Purchase your tickets

Seats in the recommended section of the Todd Wehr Theater are not initially available to the public, so we can reserve seats for those who may need ASL interpretation. To gain access to the recommended section, simply click the links below or enter the promo code "ASL" before selecting your seats for an ASL interpreted performance. Reserved ASL seating may be released to the public up to 5 days prior to a performance, so please consider purchasing in advance.

If you wish to sit in a seat outside of the recommended sections or are purchasing tickets for an ASL interpreted performance at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, simply purchase your tickets as usual.

You may also contact our box office at (414) 267-2966 or ticketmanager@firststage.org for further questions or to reserve your tickets.
