Summer AcademyJoin us this summer for First Stage Theater Academy, the nation’s largest high-impact theater training program for young people!

Professional theater artists from across the nation will share their expertise, skills, and passion for their art with over 2,000 young people this summer. Students will develop skills in musical theater, scene study, Shakespeare, improvisation, and much more, while simultaneously building life skills, such as confidence, focus, and teamwork. Young people are encouraged to take risks and conquer their fears, and we are proud to be building the next generation of artists and leaders.

Summer Academy Session Dates are June 15 - August 21, 2020



  • One-Week Half Day sessions: $160 by March 31/$175 after April 1
  • One-Week Full Day sessions: $275 by March 31/$290 after April 1
  • Two-Week sessions (grades 3-4): $375 by March 31/$390 after April 1
  • Two-Week sessions (grades 5-12): $425 by March 31/$440 after April 1
  • Three-Week sessions (grades 5-12): $525 by March 31/$540 after April 1
  • Four-Week sessions (grades 6-12): $625 by March 31/$640 after April 1
  • Next Steps, one week: $200 by March 31/$215 after April 1
  • Next Steps, two weeks: $395 by March 31/$410 after April 1

Sibling Discount

Take advantage of our Sibling Discount when enrolling two or more children. Enrollments must be in the same order, and the discount will apply automatically. 

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is available to any student; awards are need-based. Learn more about our financial assistance program and how to apply.


New families are encouraged to attend our open house orientation to learn more about our program structure and policies, ask questions, and get a glimpse into the classroom content. A parent or guardian and the Academy student(s) should attend.

Our New Student Orientations will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 6pm and Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 6pm at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. Please indicate whether or not you plan to attend one of these sessions on your registration form.

Can’t attend a New Student Orientation session? A virtual orientation will be available online at by April 1, 2020. 


Every Summer Academy session will culminate in a lively presentation of class work for family and friends. Classes will hold presentations on the final class day. Details will be noted in the welcome letter you will receive following registration.

10th-12th GRADE FOUR WEEK SESSION: June 15th-July 10th, 8:45am-4:00pm

DATES: June 15th-July 10th TIME: 8:45am-4:00pm (students should bring their own lunch) GRADES: 10th-12th (as of Fall 2020; age range of class may change upon student attendance) PRICE: $640 ($625 if registered before April 1st, 2020) *Note: students can be dropped off starting at 8:30am. Extended Care is available after class until 5:30pm for $50/week. If students are not picked up by 4:15pm and are not previous enrolled in Extended Care, a $15/day charge will be applied to the family account. 10th-12th GRADE FOUR WEEK SESSION Students will continue their theater training through deep and multilayered immersion in the Core Curriculum. Students will strengthen and hone their fundamental acting skills while studying advanced level curriculum in scene study, voice, movement, improvisation, musical theater, and Shakespeare. For returning students only. -Acting Theory: Explore character, relationships, action and text while developing overall acting skills and confidence. - Improvisation: Develop expressiveness, spontaneity, and train your brain to think quickly and with reason through improvisational character and scene work. -Musical Theater: Increase your versatility and work on new vocal and dance techniques while exploring the art of telling a story through words, music, and movement. -Shakespeare: Crack the code of Shakespeare’s use of language and perform some of the greatest stories ever written for the theater. -Movement: Build strength, flexibility, awareness, and expression through a class devoted to the fundamentals of one of the actor’s most important tools; our body. -Voice & Speech: Strengthen the actor’s tool of voice by building skills in projection, articulation, and confident speaking.
